Who we are

18 August Ave is a Brooklyn-based children’s bookstore dedicated to BIPOC stories, family literacy, and wellness. We curate diverse children’s books that reflect real experiences and empower parents, educators, and kids to build inclusive home libraries. Through family reading programs, book subscriptions, and community pop-up events across Brooklyn and NYC, we make books and resources more accessible. Our mission is to bridge the gap between shopping and support by offering not only books, but also tools for mental health, postpartum care, and parent-child enrichment. At 18 August Ave, families can discover stories, attend events, and find resources that nurture both literacy and wellness for every stage of life.

Whether you’re shopping for a child’s first picture book, joining a family literacy event, or subscribing to a monthly book box, 18 August Ave is here to help you build a library that matters
